So since February, J and I have been doing the Earth a favor and have given up the Red Dragon (J's car) for bikes. We live so close to school, that it only takes us a few moments to ride over to school. So cutting the expense of a car hasn't been too bad. Of course, there are downs to it too. For the most part we just deal with it, tell ourselves we need the exercise, and cope until we can afford a lil junker to hold us over til graduation. Lately though, we have come across alot of situations that remind us of how difficult it is to live without a car. We usually deal with them just fine, not thinkin' much of it, like when we have to carry ridiculous loads while riding on a bike, such as groceries for the week-(just picture us with two bags on each side of the handle bars, backpacks stuffed, and trying to stay balanced!), or when we forget something at school, or grocery store, so we have to "quickly" go back, or my favorite, when it rains and i try holding a umbrella while balancing! We laugh about it all, and we will look back and think of how grateful we are that it's for a short time. Today I just have to tell the story of our experience that just made me laugh.
We went to the grocery store to just grab a few things, including a gallon of milk. We really have the system down of how to pack groceries home, so J was carrying the bag that held the milk on the way home. For some reason, there was a gate on the road and we had to squeeze through the opening, and apparently it isn't easy to do when there is milk dangling from the handle bars. The milk swayed in the bag and hit the metal pole on the gate. After I heard the sound, I turned around to see milk dripping all over J's pants and then it started getting all over his slipper covered feet. We were still so far from home, and we frantically tried to figure out what to do. WE thought of throwing away the rest, but no, milk is too expensive to waste! WE tried our best to salvage the rest, but J had to ride the rest of the way home with milk constantly trickling all over his pants and feet. I just thought it was hilarious. When we got home he had to figure out what to put the rest of the milk in because we have a mini fridge and we don't have beverage containers....So it ended up in various containers....hehe.

After we took care of the milk problem, we had to go to campus to watch a movie for history. As we were biking home, we biked past some homes that we always bike/walk past...but this time, there were dogs. It was dark and we could hear them barking, but we figured it would stop at a fence or something. But as we kept riding past, the barking got louder. And all of a sudden two dogs were attacking my husbands bare feet. I didn't know what to do, because I would be no help, and J could continue to try and kick them away or try and bike faster! A local ended up seeing us as he drove past and he stopped and honked his horn and yelled at the dogs out his window, holding up traffic on the Hwy. J was fine and it was ridiculous, but when we got home, we just laughed for a long time. Bikes are great, but I so miss sitting in a car. Oh the life of newly weds who start out with nothing...haha, we will look back and appreciate....but for now...anyone selling a car?
