Mmmm....FOOD!

Well tonight was FOODFEST at school. This event is held every semester and it is seriously the best thing that goes down all semester. Let me tell you why-All the clubs prep all day and sell all different kinds of food. You can find ANY kind of food here. There was Tahitian, Samoan, Tongan, Hawaiian, Japanese, Korean, Pasta, sweets, ice cream, and it goes on and on. Food Fest is a huge deal and the entire community comes out to support the clubs and get a great meal! Tonight J and I had a lil Fijian curry, Korean BBQ, Japanese dumplings, etc, etc....SO good! Currently SO FULL. It was such a fun night. There was also entertainment and a group called Rebel Souljahz came and they have cds out and are awesome. They just came out to support our clubs and played some wonderful island music. They are pretty big, so there was quite a turnout for them and everyone was dancing and singing along. It was a great night. Here's a link to them if you want to hear what they sound like
The best part was meeting some of J's family. Some of his cousins and his aunty came down from Alaska to visit. I was really excited to meet them because he had lived with them during the summer and I had heard so much about them! It was so fun to just sit around talking with family and enjoying a wonderful night!

I love to ride my bicycle!

So since February, J and I have been doing the Earth a favor and have given up the Red Dragon (J's car) for bikes. We live so close to school, that it only takes us a few moments to ride over to school. So cutting the expense of a car hasn't been too bad. Of course, there are downs to it too. For the most part we just deal with it, tell ourselves we need the exercise, and cope until we can afford a lil junker to hold us over til graduation. Lately though, we have come across alot of situations that remind us of how difficult it is to live without a car. We usually deal with them just fine, not thinkin' much of it, like when we have to carry ridiculous loads while riding on a bike, such as groceries for the week-(just picture us with two bags on each side of the handle bars, backpacks stuffed, and trying to stay balanced!), or when we forget something at school, or grocery store, so we have to "quickly" go back, or my favorite, when it rains and i try holding a umbrella while balancing! We laugh about it all, and we will look back and think of how grateful we are that it's for a short time. Today I just have to tell the story of our experience that just made me laugh.
We went to the grocery store to just grab a few things, including a gallon of milk. We really have the system down of how to pack groceries home, so J was carrying the bag that held the milk on the way home. For some reason, there was a gate on the road and we had to squeeze through the opening, and apparently it isn't easy to do when there is milk dangling from the handle bars. The milk swayed in the bag and hit the metal pole on the gate. After I heard the sound, I turned around to see milk dripping all over J's pants and then it started getting all over his slipper covered feet. We were still so far from home, and we frantically tried to figure out what to do. WE thought of throwing away the rest, but no, milk is too expensive to waste! WE tried our best to salvage the rest, but J had to ride the rest of the way home with milk constantly trickling all over his pants and feet. I just thought it was hilarious. When we got home he had to figure out what to put the rest of the milk in because we have a mini fridge and we don't have beverage containers....So it ended up in various containers....hehe.
After we took care of the milk problem, we had to go to campus to watch a movie for history. As we were biking home, we biked past some homes that we always bike/walk past...but this time, there were dogs. It was dark and we could hear them barking, but we figured it would stop at a fence or something. But as we kept riding past, the barking got louder. And all of a sudden two dogs were attacking my husbands bare feet. I didn't know what to do, because I would be no help, and J could continue to try and kick them away or try and bike faster! A local ended up seeing us as he drove past and he stopped and honked his horn and yelled at the dogs out his window, holding up traffic on the Hwy. J was fine and it was ridiculous, but when we got home, we just laughed for a long time. Bikes are great, but I so miss sitting in a car. Oh the life of newly weds who start out with nothing...haha, we will look back and appreciate....but for now...anyone selling a car?

Our First Wonderful Month!

Well, today was our one month anniversary and we couldn't be happier! It has been a wonderful month. And a fast one! So far, we have moved back to Hawaii into our itsy bitsy studio, started up our full schedules for school, and both have been working back at the PCC. Things have been going so well. We have been so incredibly blessed. We have already experienced so many miracles in our newly wed life.
School is going well for us both. It is so nice because we almost have all the same classes which gives us more time to spend together and we can help each other with homework! It is so nice to have the same major!
We were both able to start up work the week after we got back on the rock at the PCC. We have been working at the same place for the past few years now. It was very nice to be able come back so easily. Recently though, J and I have been looking for better jobs, because the wages aren't quite high enough to make it in HAWAII! We have been so blessed and have both found new jobs! J will be an IDD (Instructional Design & Development) Tutor on campus when he isn't in class. So he will just be helping people in our classes pretty much! J is very smart, and the professors love him and are very excited to have him as a tutor. FYI: Tutor jobs are SUPER easy. You get paid to sit in a room full of brand new Macs and help kids that come in to ask you, but if they don't come, you still get paid! And you can just work on homework and surf the net! We are super stoked that he got the job. He is starting out at a better wage than he was ever at for the PCC and the professor said he would really like J to TEACH A CLASS IN THE FUTURE! Yes, TEACH! But SHHHHHH....it hasn't happened yet. But that means, he'd be somewhat of a professor! He'd get paid Professor wages for the class he teaches. Wow, J is SOMETHIN! I am SO excited for him! This is all going to be a great experience for him and will be so beneficial to him in the future!
I on the otherhand, just found a reliable, but GOOD job! I will be a Pizza GIRL! I was hired at Pizza Bob's out in Haleiwa (about 30 min away). It's a restaurant and I'll be a server there. But servers make tips and from what I'm told I could do well, which will help our lil family heaps! I only have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays so I can work a few days a week.
We are so blessed! Things have been going so great for us and we are still, (and always will be) MADLY in love! Today for our "Anniversary" we decided to ditch the classes...the only time (I promise!) and went to Honolulu. We went to the HUGE shopping mall Ala Moana and looked around, got some dinner and just completely enjoyed out day.
We are SO SO HAPPY!

Yay for Pictures!

Well, J and I still feel like we are in a dream. We are loving life together! Today we got an email from Dustin Izatt who was our wedding photographer. He said he had posted some of our pictures that he has finished on his blog. We SO love them! He captured our special day so perfectly! I am so glad that the pictures turned out so well for us to remember our special day. I should be getting a cd of all of them soon, but until then, please look at his website and see them all!!! Aaahh, the married life...

Well, J and I are now settled into our little "humble" home (studio) back in Laie, HI. We are loving life. School started last Thursday ad we are trying to get back into the swing of things. September is the HOTTEST month here (or so it seems) and we just can't get cool enough! Our cute lil studio has a ceiling fan that runs too slow to make any breeze, but we do have a small fan that is the size of J's palm. hahaha. We thought about getting some popsicles, but our lil fridge won't hold a box! It is so small, and our home is so "humble" but we love it, and we will look back and laugh at our situation....later. :) Everything else is going well! We are back working at the PCC taking photos with tourists, but I'm trying to find more work because hours are short and bills are high! Hopefully I find something soon! Love love love being married to my best friend! He is SO good to me. And we have had SO many blessings since we decided to get married. In fact, last week while we were working we met a couple nice Samoan ladies visiting from New Zealand and Australia. Well, J could relate alot to them because his parents and sister live in NZ and Australia. The ladies were so kind and gave us a good sum of money just because they thought we may need it. We never got their names. They were so kind. It is so true that we are blessed in all sorts of ways by all different people. What a blessing! I am so glad I have a wonderful husband always by my side! Oh how I love him!!!

Gettin' hitched!

Well, it's down to about 2 weeks now! IT is CRAZY! Jay and I have decided to get married before we go back to school. It was just what felt right and everything has been falling into place perfectly! I definitely have TONS to do, but it has been great. Jay's parents and sister are coming over from Australia and New Zealand and some of his family from Alaska is going to make it too! We are so excited! We have found a itsy bitsy little "studio" for this semester that will work until we can move into married housing or someplace better! We are SO excited! We are having a reception here at the house in Blackfoot and it's going to be so fun! Things will work out great. Jay and I are so happy and I think everyone is happy for us. :) I can't wait to start this new part of life! Jay (Jaliz Scanlan) has been such a blessing in my life. He is everything I need! He is so kind and FUN and funny and caring and responsible and a good person. He has given me so much in so many ways and I am so thankful I have him in my life! We have learned to compromise and learn from each other. WE are going to have such a wonderful time going thru life together! I love you, Jay. :)

JOhnSoN JUNGLE

I've been spending some days here in Logan with Stan and Aubs and this evening we went out to a park in Wellsville. Those kids are so fun! Zack and I had a great time playing with the kids and Stan. (Aubs was busy taking care of ladies in labor at work) Gotta love them. As CRAZY as they are.. As you can see from the pics above, Stan obviously gave their kids his good looks...
